Unity Festival 2016
TINY HOUSES 30x40in, oil on canvas, July 18, 2016, painted at Slocan City Beach.
Terrific time at the Unity Music Festival in Slocan, showed up with all my painting stuff, encouraged others to join in. Theme, tiny houses. Everyone who participated had a fun time, this was the painting I had at the end of the day.

View along the Salmo Creston
Along the Salmo Creston, 18x24in, oil on canvas, June 17 2015
A beautiful afternoon, a painting that is not quite finished, but the paint is thick and wet and I will wait to put some final touches and enhance the composition.

North from Bannock, 12x16in oil on canvas, June 9 2015
These two oil sketches need some touch after I got back home, touched them up this morning, and presto, two more pieces.

Slocan Lake from New Denver
Perfectly hot day, Slocan Lake, 20x24in, oil on canvas June 8 2015
Spent a super hot day under a shade tree by the lake, good decision, I was nice and cool by the water and managed to kick out this oil sketch, needs a bit of touch yet but I think it represents the iconic Slocan Lake view.

Power House
Old Power House 8x10in. oil on birch, June 6 2015
This old power house along the Kootenay River has seemed like a good painting subject to me for a number of years, finally got to it yesterday.

Taghum BC
Low water, High Noon, Taghum 16x20in oil on canvas, May 22 2015
The river is low, the glacial runoff and rainwater usually fills it by July, here's hoping that the dry hot summer being predicted isn't too severe.

Looking north again from Balfour
Kootenay Lake looking north from Balfour 3 16x20 oil on canvas May 14 2015
Another fine painting day with my friends Brigitte Debois and Stephanie Gauvin, the weather started out a bit damp but we toughed it out, and we were rewarded with a nice day and some fun painting time.

One of my favourite spots
Above Slocan, 16x20in. oil on canvas, May 2 2015
I really like this spot to paint from. I am high up on a bluff, way above the water, and getting a really interesting angle of repose from here. I love the way the wind and water make S shapes on the water surface, how the sounds of people in boats carry up toward me, how the crows and ravens are always checking me out as they float past the bluffs.

A progression

Bannock Falls
Bannock Falls, 16x20in. oil on canvas, April 27 2015
A most excellent day painting and jawing with my friend Sandy Stevenson, I regaled him with many a story about my trip south, my views on the world, and we compared notes on some painting ideas.
And I managed to squeak out this painting, despite spending all that time talking at poor Sandy, who endured my rants and raves with a smile. All in all, a very good day indeed.

Ancient tree and rocks, graphite pencil on paper, 11x14in. Mar 13 2015
Hangin' around Prescott Arizona for a few days, then off to Phoenix to pick up Evan.
Nice place, Prescott, pronounced Preskitt by the locals.

Valley of the Gods
Bluffs at Bluff, 20x24 in. oil on canvas, Mar. 6, 2015
Made my way to Bluff, Utah, took a few days to rest up, then a couple of days exploring Valley of the Gods, no painting, simply absorbing the amazing energy of the place, taking some photos, and then back to painting. Heading south tomorrow to check out Canyon de Chelly, Arizona for a few days and to replenish some art supplies in Prescott. I have run out of canvas.
Truck selfie.
Magical place, Valley of the Gods, Utah
Valley of the Gods, the energy of this landscape is powerful. Very happy that I took the time to retrace some of my travels and spend a couple of days here, or I would have missed this.

Millions of Years
Millions of Years, 10x14 in. oil on mahogany board, Feb 28, 2015
Take a mile thick of petrified sandstone from ancient ocean sediment, add wind and water, bake in a few millions of years in time, and if you are lucky, one day you get to paint a picture of it.
